SEASON CHANGES. DOES IT STILL MAKE SENSE TO TALK ABOUT IT?

The golden rules for having an ‘all seasons’ wardrobe

I often wonder who was the first to promote the saying “there are no more middle seasons” and I started looking online who the author was, but with not result.

It is probably the classic stock phrase said by some wise old man:it started spreadingby word of mouth so as to become a mantra, without his knowledge.

It is yet true that his statement today is very topical.

The climate situation of the last few years has increasingly reduced the transition from winter to summer and the long autumn and spring periods are justoutlined in a few days.

What a pity that his prophecy has come true!

Indeed it is, because summer and winter are by definition decisive seasons and their colors are deep or luminous, but in both cases decisive, intense and strong.

We are missing hues, pastel shades and watercolors.

Talking about fashion, clothing and thereforewardrobe change, this almost absence of middle seasons is in fact affecting our daily habits, with reference to the way people dress, purchase and organize their wardrobe.

In all this, fashion also plays an important role because the collections of recent years, whether on the wake of the objective climate changes, or as drivers of new trends have increasingly led to a condition of mix and match fabrics, colors, models, proposing superimpositions, contrasts, creative and unexpected solutions.

Today we do not talk about middle seasons, but seasonal days.

Indeed, within a 12-hour period we can go from a winter cold in the morning to a scorching heat at lunch.

So what to do?

If the playing field changes, you need to change strategy.

The golden rule today is the intelligent superimposition namely to wear, especially from September to May, winter clothes mixed with summer, spring and autumn garments and accessories, depending on how the weather predicts the day is going to be.

Perhaps the only season where you can still have a well-defined wardrobe is summer, but in other months, you can really think of wearing a summer dress (therefore in cotton) and a turtleneck or putting wool stockings with sandals and so on…

Matches that once seemed unlikely today are everyday reality.

Do you remember the famous saying “dressing like an onion”? Let’s say it is always valid, but it must be done with particular care to avoid badly mixing colors and fabrics and especially not to give the impression of having an extra size!

Superimposition is a particularly sophisticated art. It takes very little to slip on the wrong matchdressing up an outfit that penalizes us.

Do not be scared, it is often our common sense and instinct to lead us on the right path. If you have good taste and a certain color harmony sensitivity, you are safe!

Yet if you really do not feel confident, you can always ask an Image Consultant to help you!

If you want a wardrobe without season or seasonal days, (I like this definition, who knows that it does not become popular :)) then you have to pay close attention to some aspects.

For those always dressed in black the slip-up is less likely, but if we want to dare with colors, fabrics and patterns then there are textbook rules to be followed to maintain a certain consistency of style.

A wardrobe for seasonal days: best tips

  • Colors and prints

You always have to keep an eye on the matching if dealing with layered clothing of different colors and patterns.

Let me give an example. If you decide to match a polka dot print with a floral print it would not necessarily be wrong. It is important that within the play of layered clothing, there is consistency in the colors that need to be well matched together: they can be complementary (blue and orange) or analogues (green and blue) but they do need to be in line with your palette. That is, they mustenhance your complexion and therefore your figure.

In addition, the choice of colors and patterns to match must be done with the aim of enhancing or camouflaging any strengths and weaknesses of your figure.

Light colors and flowery patterns (especially large ones) optically create a volume effect, an effect of enlargement. Dark colors and geometric patterns if used correctly can create a slimming effect.

On the contrary, if you want to find out what your friend colors are, then you have to do a color analysis

  • Fabrics

Always supposing our polka dots and floral outfit, much attention must also be paid to the choice of fabric.

If you have decided to match a polka dots printed overcoat and a flowery printed skirt, then you can choose for the outerwear a light fabric while for the skirt (if a tulip model) a heavier one. This may also apply to the contrary but a further factor comes here into play: your physicality. In case of slim figures, I would suggest, for example, a skirt of softer fabric and a more structured coat that gives volume.

You won’t match linen with velvet while brocade goes really well with silk.

If you want a stylistic reference for the combination of colors and fabrics, the Gucci Spring / Summer 2017 fashion show led the way beyond what can be a personal taste.

  • Models of clothes

As you have read, whether you are talking about colors or fabrics, everything is always related to one’s own person, to one’s physicality.

And here is the third element that must absolutely be taken into consideration when choosing to superimpose garments.

Who are we, aesthetically speaking? To which type of figure do we belong?

If we are the classic apple-shaped or pear-shaped, there is really a lot of difference in the choice of models to superimpose because, as I said at the beginning,we risk creating volume where it is not necessary just  drawing the attention right on the point of our body that we should ‘camouflage’.

If you have big breasts maybe putting a t-shirt underneath and a dressing gown over it is not the best choice because you create volume and then emphasize apart of the bodythat is already considerable (unless you consciously do it).

  • Style

First, it must be your own style and if it is not yet clear what it is, let yourself be guided by your stylistic key feature!

If you do not have a precise identity in terms of style, in fact, in the play of superimpositions and contrasts, the risk is to create an unwanted gipsy effect.

In terms of clothes, a trend of the 2017-2018 Fall / Winter season is the micro jacket combined with maxi pullovers or over shirts. Again the turtleneck with a shirt on top, trousers under the skirt. They can be interesting combinations if done with wisdom.

Even only accessories then can determine the style.

Other trends proposed by fashion are the multi bag, asymmetric earrings or multi earrings on one ear, the scarf on sweaters and shirts.

Personally, I find this new way to organize the wardrobe very funny and creative.

Calendar schemes and managements fall to give space to the creativity of each of us that can really indulge in inventing new outfits every day, all year round.

The art of combining and upsetting to create new solutions.

Some might think that the risk is to have a messy wardrobe and this could happen if, by nature, we are not particularly organized people; but also for this objection, there is a possible way out.

Think in terms of wardrobe capsules.

If you can mix clothes together, you can create more combinations: having 4 seasons at your disposal to draw from can potentially make you master of an infinitive wardrobe.

Then, sorry but why don’t we talk about no longer having the problem of managing the fateful ‘season changes’?
